Alan Fisher (Darfield): I played in this game for darfield cp at left half no 6 as it was in back then..I was the youngest player for darfield as I was still in the 3rd year at primary school…l can remember it was a cold wet and windy day and the school hired a coach from hargreaves the local coach company in low valley for the players and parents..in the semi final we played thurnscoe hill away and won 1-0…Ronnie Sheperd scored the goal and is also mentioned in the press cutting about the final.. I’ve still got the medal we recieved for being runners up…

Mr Rothin the school caretaker was a qualified referee also our next door neighbour refereed the home draw 0.0. He give a offside decision after park street scored which was controversial to say the least.
Malcombe Wilkinson broke his arm just as the school year started and I took his place in the football team.. Martin and Lee oxley were identical twins and played at full backs but I couldn’t tell you which played at right or left back.
Our school headmaster was called Mr Byron and had just started that year replacing Mr Cooke who was very popular and very keen on school football.
Paul Cartledge: I was a pupil at Darfield CP. I didn’t play but went to the final on the coach. The final was played at the old LNER ground at Swinton. In the quarter-final Darfield CP beat Wombwell Park Street 4-0 in a replay after the first game finished 0-0. I have press cuttings to confirm this. Gary Wistow played in goal and the Oxley brothers, Lee and Martin, also played. Ronnie Shepherd was captain. I remember other names from school but not entirely sure if they all played for Darfield. Those being, Ross Halligan, John Ramsey, Stuart Pickerill, Malcolm Knight. Just to confirm, we beat Thurnscoe Hill 1-0 away in the semi-final.
I remember Ronnie Shepherd scoring the goal at Thurnscoe Hill in the semi-final when we won 1-0.
