Report from the South Yorkshire Times on 19/4/35 (Page 15)
Following a good game on the Goldthorpe United ground, Thurnscoe hill beat Bolton by the odd goal of 5 in the final. A foul to Bolton brought the first score. Walker took the kick, the ball being carried goalwards by the wind. Smith got to the ball but failed to hold it. Davison played a capital game for Thurnscoe and repeatedly managed to get his forwards on the move. Robinson and Unsworth caused the Bolton backs considerable anxiety but by good covering they were able to keep their goal intact for some time. Eventually Unsworth equalised. The Bolton attacks were more spasmodic than Thurnscoe’s. One good effort in which Johnson and Webb combined well results in Fennell scoring. In the second half Thurnscoe played up strongly. A miskick by a Bolton back led to Thurnscoe’s second goal, Robinson centring for Burns to score. Following a weak goal-kick, Robinson paved the pay to Thurnscoe’s first goal. Unsworth giving the Bolton keeper no chance.
At the conclusion of the game the trophy was presented by Mr. J. I. Hall (vice-Chairman of the Dearne Valley School Sports Association).
Thurnscoe got to the final by beating Wath Victoria 9-1, Wombwell King Road 2-1 and Wombwell Park Street 4-2. Bolton reached the final by beating Goldthorpe 2-0, Wombwell John Street 8-0 and Brampton 3-2 (in the semi-final).
