They did it again! 24 hours after winning the Totty Cup Lacewood has won the Northern region of the Pokémon Cup at Liverpool FC Academy.
Today they faced 10 other schools from all over the North, overcoming a team from Greater Manchester in the final.
To qualify for today’s event, the school team from Bolton-on-Dearne won their local section, then the Barnsley section, then the SY section and are now the first school from Barnsley to be champions of the North. 5000 schools entered, there are now just 12 left.
Lacewood go on to play the finals on Derby County’s pitch on May 17th.

Totty Cup report:

Lacewood 4 Brampton Ellis 3
A superb final saw Lacewood come from behind to overcome Brampton Ellis.
Brampton Ellis struck first when Joshua Hardware pounced on a wind-assisted punt that was only parried.
This was cancelled out by Cohen Mace when he converted a penalty that he himself had won.
Within a minute, Hardware restored Brampton’s lead when he reacted quickly to a loose ball in the box.
As half-time approached Lacewood were awarded a series of free-kicks within shooting range. Zak Bridgen’s first effort looked like it was going in, until keeper Vinny Pettinger clawed it onto the crossbar. That was a marker for Bridgen, as his next free-kick arrowed in. Half-time 2-2.
The Mace brothers turned the game in Lacewood’s favour with a goal apiece after the break. Cohen latched on a long ball and coolly rounded the keeper, before Logan’s looping shot opened up a 2 goal advantage.
The Ellis were still in it and Max Watson’s long distance effort went narrowly wide before Oliver Cory prodded in after an assist from Hardware.
Lacewood saw out the last 10 minutes to secure the Totty Cup for the first time in 5 years – and a Don & Dearne double after winning the Barlow-Salmons last year.
The Brampton Ellis class of 2024 can take heart from the fact that they are their best school team in 16 years.
