2026 – Don & Dearne Cup & Karen Walker Shield

Swinton Queen were crowned Don & Dearne Cup winners at Mexborough Athletic after a 2-0 victory against their neighbours Swinton Fitzwilliam.

The girls of Fitzwilliam has actually beaten Queen in the league stage of the tournament – this was the only match out of five that Queen had failed to score.

One week on from Fitzwilliam‘s Winstanley Cup final defeat to Wath C of E, they faced them again in the semi-finals.  This time Swinton school progressed thanks to a goal by Javaria.

In the other semi-final, Queen beat Central 1-0 through the golden boot of Connie Rouane (this was her 4th goal of the afternoon).  Central had done well to reach the last four – partly down to the brilliance of Kate – who starred as a goalkeeper and then as an outfield player.

The all-Swinton final saw Rouane notch her fifth goal of the afternoon before Queen’s captain, Poppy Humphries, sealed the victory with an emphatic strike.

Lacewood won the Karen Walker Shield with a narrow victory in the final against Rawmarsh Rosehill at Mexborough Athletic.

In one semi-final Rosehill beat Barnburgh thanks to a goal from Sophie Law.  In the other semi Lacewood‘s prolific Leyla Noonan scored to overcome Mexborough St. Johns.  Noonan had scored in each of the first four matches of the afternoon.

In the final, Lacewood‘s scored a long-distance goal, this time from another source – Miya Hodgson-Love’s hopeful punt bounced over the Rosehill keeper.

This was the first time that Lacewood has won a girls’ competition and the perfect send off to their teacher, Ross Edwards, who has secured a teaching job abroad.
