Jon Bailey writes “The match was played at the LNER ground, Swinton.  I remember Martin Georgeson and Jamie Cocksedge scoring for us in the first half, but I can’t remember who scored the third – could have been David Tolley, he seemed to score in most of the games we played!  The game nearly had to be replayed, we were taken off in the second half such was the rain, but we managed to finish the game off on a waterlogged pitch.  I even managed to drop the cup itself in a puddle on our victory lap to the huge assembled crowd (four sets of parents and a dog).  We had a great 82/83 season and only lost once (to Barnburgh, who had players of 12 years in their side – slightly unfair!).  I hardly touched the ball in any of the games and seemed to spend most of the matches watching our marauding forwards at the other end of the pitch!  Mind you, I had a good pedigree right back to defend me – Jamie Salmons, Jeff Salmons son.”
