John Hillson

John Hillson is one of that elite group to have played in TWO Totty Cup finals. His team, Highgate won both finals with John scoring a brace in his 2nd final in 1957.

Whilst at Dearnside Secondary, many of the Highgate team played together again, drawing in the final of the West Shield. They lost the toss, that’s why the medal below in a runners-up one. Both schools had the trophy for 6 months each. Barry Wagstaff was in the opponents line up – Darfield Foulstone.

This team had a remarkable run. They went undefeated for the whole of the 1955-56 season and only lost once in the 1956-57 season. Ironically, it was Brampton Ellis that beat them, but Highgate exacted revenge one week later by beating them in the Totty Cup final.
