The Ashmore Family

Arthur “Sab” Ashmore (born 1916) played in the 1929 and 1931 Totty Cup finals for Highgate. He is pictured above behind the shield in 1931. His son, Arthur (born 1946), went onto win the Totty Cup in 1957 – also with Highgate (see certificate)

Arthur Senior joined the army and came out with the nickname, “Sab”. Whilst on leave from the army, during World War II, Sab played as a guest for Norwich City on 6 occasions – scoring 3 goals. He worked as an overman at Highgate pit.

Arthur Junior played for Doncaster Rovers. The 1957 page also mentions Richard Ashmore (who was of Sab’s nephew).
