Three goals in the last 10 minutes hide how tight this final was between two schools from the same academy trust.
Wath Victoria looked more likely to break the deadlock and claim the Totty Cup for the first time since the inaugural 1923 final. Max Hartley must have though he had scored for Victoria but Tommy Dickinson’s stretched to hook the ball off the goal line. Wath’s Max Shepherd had his head in his hands after seeing his deflected shot hit the post.
Into the second half and St. Johns missed a chance with an indirect free-kick from close range. Victoria’s Henry Smith had an opportunity at the far post but his shot went wide.
The crowd of 200+ were beginning to expect extra-time when Mexborough’s Jack Woodward dribbled through the middle and drilled in a low shot to give Archie O’Donnell no chance.
Two goals in the last three minutes from Freddie Hibbard secured St. Johns first Totty Cup win since 1992.
