Highgate 5-0 Goldthorpe
Highgate dominated the Brian Hyde Cup final against Goldthorpe to secure their first Don & Dearne title in 12 years.
A relentless period of early pressure from Highgate produced two goals from Joey Walton’s corners. The first was an own goal and then Oliver Brook punished a wayward clearance.
In between these goals, Jordan Ofori-Asubonteng had Goldthorpe’s best effort when his powerful shot was well saved by XXXXX.
At the other end, the Goldthorpe keeper Billie Chappell was busy keeping the score down until Finley Georgeson extended the lead when he tucked away a penalty that he had earned himself.
Two quality left-footed strikes from Leo Nee either side of half-time completed the scoring.
A young Goldthorpe side should take some comfort in continuing the school’s progress in Don & Dearne competitions – this is their third consecutive final after a barren period of 25 years.
