KWS – Karen Walker Shield – the Europa League

The Don & Dearne Girls Cup started in 2022, just before the Women’s EUROs. On that day we were joined by Chris Dawkes of ITV.

Andy Morton (left in the above photo) came up with the idea for the girls’ competition.

In our inaugural year the two finalists could not be separated despite multiple periods of extra-time – Mexborough St. Johns edged out Brampton Ellis on penalties.

The 2023 finals’ day had a mini-league format which produced a clear winner – Wath C of E.

Wath C of E couldn’t be caught in 2023 (against Wath Our Lady & St. Josephs)

Typically, the schools play a local qualification tournament in one of 4 venues (February). This generates 8 teams to compete for the cup in May.

Brampton Ellis didn’t concede a single goal on the finals day in 2024

We are grateful to Kevin Silverwood’s ABC Landscaping Services for their continued sponsorship. The school grounds specialists have supported the Don & Dearne Girls Cup from the very start.
