School Talks

Our area has an amazing football heritage which we can share with your school via a short presentation in an assembly or to a smaller group.

The Mexborough Montagu Cup is the oldest football final still to be played at its original venue – since 1897 – and the trophy is the original one.

The Totty Cup has been played since 1923 and started by Goldthorpe cinema owner Russell Totty. The original trophy is missing and so is it’s replacement!

One local player scored in the the Totty Cup final and then the Montagu Cup final and then the FA Cup final. This Wembley goal was sketched by a young John Lennon – a sketch that was used as an album cover.

Locally we had one of the very best football acadamies – Wath Wanderers – which saw over 100 professionals pass through between 1939 and 1970. Most of these went to Wolves.
